Nobody can be American Indian unless the parents are Indian or unless they are adopted by the tribes. However anyone may learn from the elders. May apply what they learn to them self and in that way become more then just another person.

"Just as a mother protects her children so does Great Mystery do the
same for us. Just as a child protects his parents, so must we do the
same for our Mother the Earth."

None of the Religions of the world have all of the truth. Each has a
portion given to a group of people. Each also has falsehoods in the way
they carry out the teachings of the elders who taught them. Learn from
the best and ignore the rest.

The sound of Great Mystery is the sound of the fire, the singing of the
winds, the splash of the tumbling creek or the roar of the waves. The
boom of the thunders and the patter the rain carry's his words. The cry
of the hawk and the howl of the coyote carry his thoughts. The cry of a
newborn is his expression of all is well in my universe.

When a elder teaches, it's not just what you want to learn but even more important what you don't want to learn. It's not just wisdom but a chance to grow and change your life. If a elder agrees to teach be humble, thankful and open for you will learn about living more then anything else. You may find self challenged to live what you are taugt first.

It doesn't matter how long we pray. It doesn't matter how elegantly we pray. We don't even have to pray out loud. What matters is forming the picture of what we are asking for as real as we can. Filing those prayers with the emotions we would feel if we had all ready had them answered. Then going with confidence that our prayers are answered. Effective beats public prayers ever time. What matters is that our prayers are answered.

It is man who creates evil, it is man who does evil. Do not blame the Devil every person has a choice. Since you have a choice, why not serve the best self, but no greed and fear cause evil by subverting choosing the best.

It is the job of everyone who receives it to pass on elders wisdom with respect not only for the elder but even more so for the young people who it is being entrusted to.

Remember that our people once walked in harmony with each other and the other and Mother. Learn to do so once again. It is the desire for what another has that causes war and it is the desire for more then you need that causes the rape of Mother. Remember all men and women need food shelter and clothing all else is gravy.

The past is filled with both good and bad. Learn from the bad, adapt the

good for today and build not for then or now, but for the next seven
generations. This applies not only to your life but your relationships
with others and even your governments. If we fail to grow and adapt, we
are bound to repeat the mistakes of the past, to our sorrow and the
sorrow of those who follow us.

When you greet the sun, it doesn't matter what language you use. What
matters is that after you greet Grandfather you listen to the music of
creation singing joyfully within and around you.

Grandmother who used these words in her greetings. "Good morning
Grandfather. Thank you for providing light and warmth that all
Grandmothers children might live. Thank you for impregnating Mother that
we her multitude of children might have life. Above all Grandfather
thank you for providing a pale reminder of the far greater light beyond
you."

Uncle Bob taught me of true prayer. It's so easy I don't know why
religions fail to teach it. Nor do I know why people still pray for
results they fear for instead of the results they desire.

Before you pray think about not what you wish to avoid but what you wish
to accomplish. Think about how you act with the desired outcome, see
your self as you enjoy what you envision happening. Make it as real as
you can. Put every emotion, every thing related in the accomplished
outcome. Then give thanks for this and let it go. Do not dwell on it,
nor the conditions that brought the problem. Just how you will feel when
you get the desired results.Make the picture as complete as possible
complete with the emotions and the celebrations accompanying what you
want to do or accomplish or obtain. Then let it go and don't worry about
it, you will accomplish what you envision without having to do anything
about it yourself, if you need money it will come, if you need help from
others it will come and if you need something you don't know about it
will come. Go ahead and pray and know someone or something does answer
prayers.

Fyodor Dostoyevsky lived in a hopeless time and place, a world of pogroms, starvation, filth, and syphilis. His life was plagued by epilepsy, mental problems, and poverty. Yet he left us this message:

"Love all of God's creation, the whole of it and every grain of sand. Love every leaf, every ray of God's light! Love the animals, love the plants, love everything. If you love everything, you will perceive the divine mystery in things. And once you have perceived it, you will begin to comprehend it ceaselessly, more and more every day. And you will at last come to love the whole world with an abiding, universal love."
